About Lisa

"To thine own self be true."  ~William Shakespeare

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Lisa grew up on her family's Wind Dancer Farm.  Her first competition was at a Pony Club rally at age 4, when she rode a tiny shetland pony named David to a blue ribbon finish. Around the age of eleven, she transitioned from a gymnastic career to concentrate on her riding skills, and began doing clinics with Karen O'Connor.  Following high school, she moved to Middleburg, VA to be a working student for Karen and David O'Connor.

Currently in charge of the young horse training/sales program for Wind Dancer Farm, Lisa enjoys breaking and training sport horses for competition, as well as producing horses for sale, and teaching through her own business, Lisa Barry Equestrian.  She accepts other horses for training during summers in Middleburg Virginia and winters in Ocala Florida. She especially enjoys bringing along young horses, using natural horsemanship techniques. Lisa has the reputation of being a friendly, honest horsewoman who produces lovely, well-broke horses.

Lisa is a US Equestrian Team long listed rider who has been ranked 25th in the US top 50 riders.  She competed her own F.I.S. Prince Charming at the 2015 Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event.  She and her first three star partner (now retired), Kenzo de la Roque, competed very successfully at the three star level--8th place at Jersey Fresh CCI***, 14th at The Fork CIC***, following top 5 placings at Advanced including Red Hills and Pine Top.  At the 2011 American Eventing Championships, Kenzo finished 10th overall in the Advanced, 9th for the US.

F.I.S. Prince Charming, aka Peanut, was second at the 2012 Chattahoochee CCI2* and went on to win the challenging Red Hills Advanced HT early in 2013. They had the fastest clean xc run and a faultless stadium round at The Fork 2013 CIC3* to finish 17th out of 60, then placed in the top 25 at the 2013 Plantation Field CIC3*.  Peanut was a rock star at the 2014 Jersey Fresh CIC3* finishing 6th and went on to capture second place at the 2014 Bromont CCI3* with the only clean stadium round!  He completed the 2014 Fair Hill International CCI3* in the top 20. Lisa also rode Rosie's Little Miss Liberty around the challenging CCI2* at Fair Hill with no jumping faults.

Lisa has trained and competed multiple horses at international competitions, including Vinnie Barbarino, L’Cedric, Just a L’il Bit, Kenzo de la Roque, FIS Prince Charming, Rosie's Little Miss Liberty and Madeline GS.  As a Young Rider, she represented Area VIII at the North American Young Riders Championships in 2002 and earned a Team Silver Medal at the 2005 NAYRC with Area II, riding L’Cedric. In 2007, she and Just a L'il Bit won the Morven Park CCI*.

As a long time student of Karen and David O’Connor, Lisa also rides with Jackie Brooks for dressage and has participated in clinics with Betsy Steiner, Linda Zang, Anne Kursinski, Capt. Mark Phillips, John Madden, and others to further expand her knowledge and skills.

Also gaining international experience in a supporting role, Lisa has been a world-class groom for both American riders and the Canadian Team.  She groomed for the Canadians Jessica Phoenix at the Pan Am Games in Brazil and the World Equestrian Games in Kentucky, and for Stephanie Rhodes-Bosch at Badminton, in England.  She has groomed many times for US and Canadian riders at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event, Fair Hill International, Galway, etc.

Lisa's ultimate goal is to represent the US one day in international competition.
